Calling all bad women.

Rage is sacred.

As women, we are often taught to deny or suppress this energy.

There is always a message in our rage.

I have moved through buckets of rage this week and feel very called to speak about some subjects that often bring up a lot of discomfort. Topics that we are conditioned to sweep under the rug and not talk about in the name of keeping the peace.

Where’s the justice in that?

Whether it’s breaking free from the manipulative, controlling chains of a narcissist ex-husband or burning down the many boxes that we were invited into by our families, each step we take on our spiritual path can be a doozy.

We’re often surrounded with love and light teachings, spiritual bypassing that detaches us from what’s happening in our bodies and lives.

When nobody talks about these experiences, it can feel like we are doing something wrong or that we are alone. We must be the only person going through this.

So let me be real - spiritual growth can be a complete shit show.

It invites us to really live what we’re learning, to bring all that juicy wisdom into the body, to walk the walk, and talk the talk.

Doing our inner work allows us to make a real difference in the world. And to do so, we have to get comfortable making others uncomfortable.

And for women especially, there is a ton to unpack here.

To love and nurture others, but not at the expense of ourselves. To love and nurture others, but not their egos, illusions, or games. To love and nurture what is real.

In stepping out of the matrix, in blazing our own paths, we are going to piss people off. The more we claim our freedom, power, and joy - the more we will mirror to others all the ways in which they are not.

I have found my awakening journey as a mother to be particularly difficult.

The expectation of mothers is to be self-sacrificing, to put our kids (and often everyone else) above ourselves. If you are not an overbearing, helicopter parent you are neglectful and selfish. There is no middle ground, only limiting extremes. Be a martyr. Be a nice, good woman. Keep others comfortable and put yourself last. Shriveling away to please others is the norm, even celebrated. This is what you’ve signed up for as a parent, so suck it up and be quiet. We are meant to suffer. Are you being abused or mistreated? It’s your fault. Don’t love and nourish yourself, don’t follow your dreams, be content in the few roles you are allowed. You can want and grow, but only within this itty-bitty space. Once you no longer fit here, shrink.

Fuck that.

Every human has gifts and struggles, unique lessons to be experienced. We are meant to do things differently. We NEED to in order to bring balance and healing to our planet.

What is wrong for you may be deeply true for me.

We get to show up authentically in all roles and spaces, to define what is true for us. To listen to our sacred rage within that begs us to claim what is true even if there is no one else in the entire world who can validate this knowing for us.

To all you bad women, mothers, humans out there - I see you.

Keep saying the uncomfortable truths, rocking boats, lifting rugs.

Perhaps being called bad is a powerful reflection that we are no longer able to be controlled as we claim more freedom, together.

The world needs your unique medicine.

I’m in the arena with you.

Bloody, sweaty, and free.

Love,

Melissa

Want to tap into more empowerment and freedom? Here are some resources that have helped me.

Breath of Fire is a breath I often include in my kundalini yoga classes. It detoxifies and energizes the body. It’s a very empowering breath once you get it down. Some people breathe out through the mouth. I was taught to breathe out through the nose and this is what I teach in my classes. Do what feels best for you.

The Adi Shakti Mantra connects us more deeply to our power, creativity, and the divine feminine energies we all have within. This one is a call and respond, which is really helpful when learning new mantras. I LOVE this mantra. I did it every day for 40 days during my yoga teacher training and I’d highly recommend if you feel disempowered or disconnected from the feminine.
